Astigmatism Symptoms
|
|
Those
that have astigmatism may find that the details on
objects are very blurry. For example, they may be able
to see that an object is a sign, but they will likely be
unable to read the words on a sign.
Astigmatic eye is often obvious by the
astigmatism symptoms associated with the vision problem.
A stigmatic eye makes it difficult to see the details of
an object, regardless of the individuals distance from
an object. Those that have astigmatism may find that the
details on objects are very blurry. |
|
|
For example, they may be able to see that
an object is a sign, but they will likely be unable to
read the words on a sign. In some cases, astigmatic eye
may result in the object itself being blurry, making the
individual unable to ascertain what they object is,
unless they have corrective eyeglasses or contacts on.
The eye strain caused by astigmatism may result in
frequent squinting. The squinting and eyestrain can
result in very distinct vision headaches. Often times,
the headache begins near the eyes or ears and spreads
throughout the whole head.
Pain relievers may not be
beneficial for headaches caused by eye strain and the
only cure for the headaches is to correct the
astigmatism. |
|
Although some of the symptoms of
astigmatism can be treated, such as the headaches, the
symptoms are likely to continue to be bothersome until
the astigmatism itself is corrected. Astigmatism
symptoms can be greatly alleviated when individuals
utilize astigmatism contacts or prescription eyeglasses.
In addition, astigmatism surgery is known to eliminate
all of the symptoms which are associated with
astigmatism, in most cases. Astigmatism is a specific type of vision
problem, which results in blurry vision and can be
corrected through the use of prescription eyeglasses,
contact lenses or vision correction surgery. |

Astigmatism
Background:
Astigmatism is a condition which
is caused by a malformed curvature of the
cornea. The curvature of the cornea results in
refraction of light being altered at the cornea
and retina, resulting in blurry vision.
Individuals are unable to clearly see the detail
on any objects and may even be unable to see
what an object is. Astigmatism results in poor
vision, regardless of the distance of the object
from the individual. |
|
Astigmatism
Surgery:
Astigmatism surgery is often
beneficial for those that have the condition.
The most commonly practiced surgery for this
condition is LASIK surgery, which has shown to
be highly beneficial for most people that have
astigmatism. |
|
Contact lenses for Astigmatism:
Contact lenses for astigmatism
can be very helpful to those that wish to take
part in activities such as sports or recreation
such as swimming. Astigmatism contacts are less
cumbersome than eyeglasses, but they are also
just as beneficial for alleviating the symptoms
of the vision problem. |
|
Astigmatism Symptoms:
Astigmatism symptoms include eye
strain caused by excessive squinting. These
symptoms can result in headaches which begin at
the eye and spread throughout the whole head. |
|
Astigmatism Blurb:
Astigmatism results when the cornea has a
malformed curvature. The curvature results in
poor quality vision and can include blurry
vision. In fact, individuals with astigmatism
may be unable to distinguish the details on many
objects and may even be unable to ascertain what
an object is, regardless of the distance of the
object. Astigmatism can be corrected using
prescription glasses or contact lenses. There
are also several types of corrective astigmatism
available, with LASIK surgery being the most
widely utilized. |
|
Astigmatism surgery:
Astigmatism laser surgery can correct the vision
problem, by changing the curve of the cornea.
The astigmatism laser surgery is relatively safe
and has included better results than when the
surgery was first introduced.
There are in fact several types of astigmatism
surgeries and one of the most popular is LASIK
vision correction surgery. This type of surgery
is beneficial for individuals that have a
specific type of astigmatism and that type is
found in most people that suffer from
astigmatism. LASIK astigmatism surgery alters the
shape of the cornea, which results in a better
refraction of light. The cornea is altered at
one of its three levels, resulting in a more
appropriate curvature of the entire cornea. When
the refracted light reaches the cornea, it now
results in better vision for the patient. While
most people with astigmatism will benefit from
surgery, some opt to continue using eyeglasses
and contact lenses.
|
|
Those that are likely to benefit from
astigmatism surgery are those that participate
in activities in which eyeglasses can be
cumbersome or uncomfortable, such as sports or
jobs which require frequent movement.Those
that suffer from other eye problems, may still
be good candidates for LASIK surgery. However,
certain conditions such as glaucoma, make LASIK
surgery much less beneficial for astigmatism. In
addition, the cornea must meet certain
requirements, such as thickness requirements, in
order for individuals to be allowed to undergo
surgery. Those that select LASIK surgery are
likely to have a good outcome, based on past
results from individuals that had a astigmatism. |
|
Contact Lenses
for Astigmatism:
Those that are active in sports
or other activities, may select contact lenses
for astigmatism. In addition, some people simply
find that eyeglasses are cumbersome or
inconvenient and they to may select contact
lenses. There are disposable contact lenses for
astigmatism, as well as those that are reusable.
Some individuals have
astigmatism in one eye, while others have it in
both eyes. Contact lenses can easily be
prescribed to account for differing eye
conditions in each eye. In fact, individuas may
find that they only need astigmatism contact in
one eye.
|
|
One of the benefits of the many
available vision correction options, is that
individuals can select different options for
different circumstances. For example, an
individual may select astigmatism eyeglasses for
work or school and astigmatism contacts for
sports.
Soft contact lenses are not as
beneficial for astigmatism as hard contact
lenses. Soft contact lenses may simply mold to
the curvature of the cornea which is causing the
vision problem. Whereas, hard contact lenses may
be slightly more uncomfortable but they do not
conform the malformation of the cornea. |
